Hello

At Design Tactics, we talk a lot
about Creativity with Purpose.

That’s why we’ve partnered with Plan Ireland and Java Republic to create a month-long fundraising campaign to bring clean water to a coffee-growing region in Ethiopia.

What is Coffee
for a Cause?

Coffee for a Cause is a programme run by
Plan Ireland and Java Republic Roasting
Company to help enhance the lives of coffee
farmers and their families in Ethiopian
coffee-growing regions.

The programme will raise funds and awareness
during a month of activities across Ireland in
April 2011. This programme is run in partnership
with coffee lovers in the foodservice industry
and with the support of hundreds of businesses
that serve coffee to clients or staff.

How will
the money
be raised?

Throughout the month of April 2011, participating
venues and supporting businesses will raise funds for the programme through a range of initiatives. Our target is €100,000 so we need your help to achieve this goal!

For one week in the month, coffee shops and
food-service venues will ask customers to add
a donation when they buy a coffee. Similarly, businesses that provide coffee to clients or staff will be encouraged to ask for a donation with each coffee served. Collection tins will be displayed
in all participating venues and supporting businesses for the entire month.

Where will the money go?

The funds raised through Coffee for a Cause 2011 will be used to complete a project that Java Republic and Plan Ireland have been working on: The provision of clean, safe drinking water to a coffee growing community called Illili Daratu in Ethiopia. All funds raised will go directly to this project, which will provide clean water to over 10,000 people.

Where will the money go?

So far, Plan Ireland has already completed two phases of this project: This has seen the sourcing of a reliable water supply, the drilling of a 120m
well, and the pumping of the tested and approved drinking water to a reservoir over 2km away. The final step is to bring the water a further 5km into
the heart of the community, and to support the government authorities as they take over the
long-term management of the resource.
